    Erinti/Ulmo drabble. Prompt: "Rain."
Oceans belong, lakes are settled, rivers know their course but the rain has the saddest music she’s ever heard. Lonely raindrops, separated from their clouds fall with no idea where they’ll land, before they beat out a mournful tattoo on the ground in commemoration for end of their short lives.

Whether it’s the angry roar of a summer storm, or the defeated whisper of a soft spring shower, the song is always strangely beautiful, she won’t deny that. She can’t deny that but sometimes, she just wishes the composer would realise that he has more in common with the ocean.

    I drabbled.
((I found a fic prompt entitled "blue," so I just couldn't pass that up.))

Conventional wisdom has it that blue is a sad colour. To feel blue is to feel depressed but she has never seen it that way. For this child, blue is a clear summer sky; blue is happiness. In her world, blue is home; it is her marble palace, her classroom, her playground. Blue stands for comfort; blue is a pair of encircling arms, providing sanctuary from the hurts of the outside world. Blue reminds her of two sparkling eyes; always laughing, always patient, always wise.

In her mind, blue will always mean love, unconditional and everlasting. Blue stands for “father.”

Yesterday was lovely. The boy and I went to the beach and played crazy golf. Outdoors. In a howling gale. This is proper "holidays in Scotland" material; we're freezing our asses off but still jumping around and whooping like idiots. Then we went bowling, partly for fun, partly so we could thaw out after the golf.

Then we went shopping, which was the boy's idea. Yes, I have that rarest of male, heterosexual partners; a man who suggests shopping as an activity. I am now the proud owner of a new little black dress and a big, cozy cardie.

After that, I got into the little black dress and wore it to Jerome, Jerome, which was the restaurant the boy proposed in. We were seated on the same table as that night, which the staff have since christened "the table of lurve." They also gave us free champagne. Again. I LIKE this restaurant.

Finally, we went to the pub and ran into a couple of the Boy's friends, one of whom was a massive Tolkien geek so there was a great bonding during the massive drunkening.

As a result of the massive drunkening, I have a vague memory of getting home, but I have no memory of going to bed. I just woke up there this morning, still in the little black dress, with no idea of how I got there. I also woke up with THE worst headache of my young life. I'm 90% sure it's the hangover, with a 10% suspicion that it's because the Boy banged my head on the doorframe while he was carrying me to bed.

    I fail at updating.
I've encountered a severe bout of LJ apathy of late. It's not like I don't have anything to talk about, I've got plenty to talk about, I just can't be arsed writing about it. I feel I should jot down a brief recap.

    - Dublin! Dublin was fun! I saw (among other things) the skeleton of a heeouge deer, the book of kells, many many many pieces of antique silver (including a lot of neo-celtic: "Put knotwork on ehhhhhhhhhverything!"), antique clothes, weapons and uniforms galore. Prince Caspian was viewed, during which I discovered that Edmund is a ninja and that Ulmo is my daddy. Nom nom nom. Many laughs were had, much tea, popcorn and wagamama's were consumed. Not much whaiiine though. Odd that.
    - The boy met me at the airport and he was bearing flowers. The sap.
    - Returned to work to discover that underlings (and...overlings? Is that a word?) had not been following my SYSTEM. The filing cabinet was attacked, order was restored and all is well again.
    - Until we did a stock-take this week, that was hell. Probably one of the reasons I haven't been on the computer much this week. Computers were instruments of torture today and yesterday. Spending straight hours of my time typing in numbers and pressing buttons. Yay fun.
    - M has a house! M will soon have a job! Hurrah for the housing dept. finally pulling their fingers out of their asses and helping the guy.
    - Am mildly disturbed to discover that I quite like the new Coldplay album. Feel vaguely dirty.
    - Just read Watchmen for the first time. It's ace.
    - Will probably be going to open-air big screen showing of the Marriage of Figaro. Am praying the weather won't be like it was today. I don't fancy sitting in a flooded Duthie Park. I don't like your music that much, Wolfgang.

Real life is once again requested to take a hike. The story so far:

    - My father is, apparently, not happy that I would deign to take up with someone who, horror of horrors, is not a professional or university educated. Never mind the fact that we get on like a house on fire, no, money and "prospects" are everything. Part of me was extremely upset and angry about this, another part of me is not the least bit surprised. I've calmed down about it now because I've come to the conclusion that his opinion isn't going to change a damn thing.

    - Going to a wedding tomorrow, then another wedding the day after. Oh jebus.

    - Turns out the boy was unexpectedly given some time off at the same time as me, so after the weddings, we're taking off into the wide blue yonder for a couple day's camping. Am currently running around like a blue-arsed fly organising that.

-Dublin on Thursday, back the following Thursday. Might actually get some decent online time then.

    -Yeesh.

I've re-watched the last two minutes of this episode about five times now. This happened to me in season two as well. I call this behaviour "The Resurrection Ship Effect."

I had a lovely weekend, so much so that I feel like I'd been away on holiday. Only I hadn't, which made going back to work this morning kinda sucky but I'll focus on the fun stuff.

The wedding was great fun (aside from the catering. No, melon sorbet is NOT an acceptable vegetarian alternative. It's fucking water fercrissakes). There was much laughter and much dancing. It's just reinforced my opinion that the scots really know how to throw a party. Even if it starts off as a subdued, cheesy disco, after enough drink has been consumed, it's bound to descend into an anarchic ceilidh. Which is exactly what happened here.

Next day, the boy/the boyfriend/my man/Him/misandrist, sexually-objectifying, anonymous alias of your choice went out for a meal and it was lovely. In over six months of seeing eachother we hadn't been able to go out for a proper, sit down dinner at a restaurant owing to being Too Bloody Skint. So that was great.

Then we went to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Cracked-out storyline. thoughts. )

Monday was spent doing nothing but eating, playing video games and listening to music.

I come home today to discover that [info]luinar has indeed sent me tribute in the form of that Tuba Hero T-shirt. Oh yes. How pleased am I with that?

    In conclusion, awesome.

    Quickie catch-up update.
    1. Have been experiencing technological ish-oos due to wireless router crapping out on me, then wired router refusing to install, having to deal with irritating, sarcastic technical "help" people on the phone and good god, I've spent hours trying to fix this and it's still not done.

    2. Have spent the last couple of days trying very hard to stop the boy from going insane because his mother was taken into hospital (it was a stroke, she's 80, it was touch and go there for a while). BUT, she's improving, she's conscious, she's a bit slow, she's a bit slurred but she's herself. Having said that, the last few days have been some of the most stressful of my entire life, I never want to repeat them but I know I'm going to have to, one day, and it probably won't be that long before that day comes again.

    3. I lost my bankcard. Bums.

    4. In happier news, I'm going back to Uni in september. I'm selling my soul to become a blood-sucking lawyer. Go me.

    5. My uncle's told me he's getting me a laptop for my birthday. Whoo-hoo.

    6. I need a holiday.

    7. I want some decent online/RP time and I want it now...but I have to clean the flat. ARSE.

    Is it just me?
I've just started watching Pushing Daisies. Is it just me or is there a major, major Jean Pierre Jeunet influence here? The eccentric characters, the bright colour palate, the swooping, dizzying camera-work, the off the wall, slightly sarcastic narration + flashbacks? Even the pie shop set reminds me of the cafe in Amelie.
